Salesforce — Checkout Link & Affirm
Salesforce — Sending Checkout Links & Affirm Financing
Overview
This guide covers how to send a client a checkout link from Salesforce, the types of payments it supports, and how to support clients with checkout link and Affirm-related questions.
Who This Is For: All reps.
Required Systems: Salesforce.
What Can a Client Do with the Checkout Link?
- Pay with credit card (timeline: almost instant, see FAQs below)
- Pay with Affirm (timeline: instant). Affirm is third-party financing for domestic clients only; it excludes U.S. territories.
- Pay with bank card — the client will get an approval notification, but funds can take up to 5 business days to show up in Salesforce.
If clients are doing international wires, see: Salesforce — Wire Payments Process
For all payments we accept, see Types of Payments RRI Accepts
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Send the Checkout Link
Locate the opportunity record and click the dropdown near the top-right of the action buttons, then click Send Checkout Link.
Step 2: Confirm the Link Was Sent
A popup will indicate that the link was sent successfully. Click Finish.
The checkout link uses the email address on the account record, not the opportunity record.
You can also check the status of the checkout link from the opportunity. Note: Links expire after 24 hours.
Step 3: Track the Email Activity
You can track what's happening with the email from the account record by reviewing:
- Email Events
- What action the client took on the email
- The date the client actioned the email
Step 4: What the Client Sees
The client will receive an email from you (the opportunity owner).
The client will open the email and see a Pay Now button.
Once the client clicks Pay Now, it will take them to a new page to complete the transaction.
Scrolling down, the client will see the following to update the information needed to process the transaction:
- Select the method they want to pay with today
- Enter the card number if paying with a credit or debit card
- No action required — this is just an indicator that recognizes the card brand being entered
- Total of the payment today
- Terms of Service checkbox — required to complete payment. This is the equivalent of a Docusign agreement when using the checkout link; a separate Docusign agreement will not be required or delivered
- Pay Now — finalizes the payment
The total shown is what the client is paying today.
Step 5: Payment Options Vary by Scenario
Example: this is a client's balance due today on a 3-pay plan. Affirm is not displayed as an option here, since it is not a pay-in-full (PIF) transaction.
If the client is choosing Affirm (based on eligibility):
- The client can choose financing
- A breakdown of potential payment plans is shown
- Affirm's process determines the client's eligibility
Step 6: Client Completes Affirm's Process
Clients can follow the instructions from Affirm if they are choosing financing.
Checkout link and Affirm FAQ
Q: Can I send a checkout link in Salesforce Classic? A: No, only Lightning.
Q: Can we text the checkout payment link? A: No, only via email.
Q: Is Affirm financing only for U.S.A. clients? A: Yes — Affirm financing is only available for U.S.A. clients, not international clients. However, any client can use the pay-in-full option.
Q: Approximately how long should this take clients to do? A: About 5 minutes.
Q: How long does it take for the cash to show in Salesforce? A: About 30 minutes.
Q: What types of sales can we use this for? A: Sales with new cash. This cannot be used with opportunities that have existing cash or attempted transactions.
Q: Does it work with discounts? A: No. The price of the product must be what's labeled in the pricebook.
Q: Can you pay it off early? A: Yes. There are no penalties for paying off early.
Notes for Affirm
- Affirm can only be used for non-subscription sales, such as Event (UPW, BM), Mastery, Bundle, Coaching, and Product sales.
Important: Affirm will not work for any type of subscription, such as TRIC or RPM.
- This will only work in Lightning, not Classic.
- This is only for new opportunities. It is not for an opportunity that already has existing cash on it.
- Affirm only finances full amounts.
- Affirm will finance whatever price is listed on the opportunity.
- No payment plan products.
- No international clients.
Quick Tips for Success
- The checkout link uses the account email. Not the email on the opportunity record — verify the account record's email is correct before sending.
- Affirm has strict eligibility rules. New cash only, full pay-in-full amount, domestic clients only, and non-subscription products only.
- Check email activity before assuming an issue. Use Email Events on the account record to confirm whether the client received, opened, or clicked the link.
- The Terms of Service checkbox replaces Docusign. No separate agreement is needed when a client completes checkout this way.
